I wanted something unusual in the background and I'd never seen a snake in a Meher Baba portrait. After I added it, it looked like it was going to bite Meher Baba in the back. He once said we should ignore backbiters (meaning people who say negative things behind someone's back), and he appeared to be ignoring this snake in my painting - hence the title. Incidentally, at the time I painted this I had never seen Meher Baba painted with a halo either.
